SSE 268: Fueling Performance Starts with Sleep: How Sleep Loss Undermines Nutritional Goals  

Course Objectives

  • Analyze the physiological mechanisms by which sleep deprivation affects appetite regulation, glucose metabolism, and cortisol levels in athletes.
  • Evaluate the impact of sleep hygiene interventions on athletic performance, recovery, and body composition, using evidence from current research.
  • Design a nutrition and training plan that integrates sleep-promoting strategies, such as mindful caffeine use and functional foods, to optimize athletic outcomes.
