Biography:
Julio graduated as an MD (Physician and Surgeon) from San Carlos University, and specialized in Sports Medicine at the Instituto Politecnico Nacional, Mexico. Julio also obtained a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Barcelona, and has more than 30 years of experience working with athletes in elite sport. Julio has been a GSSI advisor for Guatemala since 2001, responsible for providing education on sports medicine, nutrition, and hydration, as well as sweat tests that are carried out in Guatemala and Central America.
He has been a pre- and post-graduate professor at different universities in Guatemala and internationally, in areas of Medicine, Nutrition, Hydration and Physiotherapy. He worked as the Deputy Medical Director in the Confederacion Deportiva Autonoma de Guatemala (CDAG), for more than 15 years. From 2015 to date he is the Medical Director of Medicine and Sciences Applied to Sports of the Guatemalan Olympic Committee (COG), being the Chief Medical Officer of his country in the Olympic, Pan American, Central American and Caribbean, Central American and Bolivarian Games since 2014.
He is currently President of the Sports Medicine Association of Guatemala (AMDG), Member of the Education Commission of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS), Member of the Executive Committee of the Pan American Confederation of Sports Medicine (COPAMEDE), founding Member of the Hispano-American Association of Soccer Medicine (HISPAMEF), Medical Advisor of the Guatemala National Soccer Team and Regional Medical Instructor of FIFA. Julio is also International Doping Control Officer of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), International Testing Agency (ITA), National Anti-Doping Agency (NADO) and the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA). Julio has been an international Speaker and panelist, in World, Pan American, Central American and National Congresses.
