SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND: Shyretha Brown is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI). Her primary roles at GSSI include protocol development, data collection, and biochemistry support for the Research Program. Shyretha came to GSSI from Tennessee State University (TSU) where she earned a doctorate in Biological Sciences. While at TSU, she conducted immunology and cancer biology-related research that focused on the effects of butyltin exposures on expression of interleukin 1 beta and interleukin 6 in human immune cells. Prior to TSU, she spent time at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory as a Post-Bachelors Research Associate where she gained experience in the areas of visual analytics and characterization of cellular signaling. Shyretha earned her BS at Jackson State University where she engaged in bioinformatics research. In her free time, Shyretha enjoys practicing yoga and meditation, writing poetry, and taking long walks with her dog Milo.
