Laura played competitive high school and club volleyball for 10 years. In college, she coached junior high girls' volleyball for 3 years and worked as a volunteer LSU athletic trainer and a personal fitness trainer. She has been learning and practicing yoga as well as the sport of kickboxing since 2010.
SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND: Laura is an exercise scientist at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) based in Barrington, IL. with interests in sports nutrition and hydration science, combat sports and fitness athletes, and sports science technology. She joined GSSI in January of 2011 to support the education and scientific liaison group with growing engagement opportunities. Laura has two primary foci involving the fields of education and innovation. She is responsible for education and science translation for internal groups, including both R&D and brand colleagues, as well as some external influencers, helping to educate about current science around proper hydration and sports nutrition for athletic occasions. She also works on innovation efforts and education initiatives for the fitness population. Originally from Mandeville, Louisiana, Laura earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology, concentration fitness studies, and her master's degree in kinesiology, concentration exercise physiology, from Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Along with completing a research internship and employment period at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a graduate assistantship at LSU, and her graduate thesis research (exercise and inflammation), she was a personal fitness trainer for five years, three years of which she operated her own personal training business. During her spare time, Laura enjoys volleyball, kickboxing, yoga, hiking/backpacking, and photography.
