Athletic Background:

Susan played volleyball, field hockey, and ran track through high school. She was a competitive figure skater for 18 years. Now she enjoys hiking, downhill skiing, and learning how to golf.

SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND:

Dr. Kwiecien is a Principal Scientist at the GSSI Lab in Valhalla, NY. Prior to joining GSSI, she served as Senior Manager of Clinical Research at the Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma and as an Instructor at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research at Northwell Health. She also worked as a Sports Science Consultant with a range of professional sports teams, providing expertise in exercise recovery strategies. Most recently, she supported the National Hockey League by auditing athlete data at the NHL Combine.

Susan earned her bachelor's degree at the University of Guelph, Canada. After completing her master’s at Adelphi University, she received her Ph.D. from the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation at Northumbria University, UK, under the supervision of Professor Glyn Howatson. Her thesis focused on cryotherapy and its impact on physiological and performance outcomes for post-exercise recovery.

She has authored more than 20 publications on exercise recovery and athlete performance, including peer-reviewed manuscripts and invited reviews. In her current role at GSSI, Susan supports the development and execution of clinical research initiatives, with a focus on advancing hydration and nutrition strategies for sports and fitness.
