ABOUT GSSI

Founded in 1985, the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) is committed to helping athletes optimize their health and performance through research and education in hydration and nutrition science.

GSSI scientists study the effects of nutrition on the human body before, during and after exercise. For more than two decades, hundreds of amateur, elite and professional athletes have participated in testing with GSSI and in studies with university research partners around the world. GSSI's headquarter lab, mobile and satellite laboratories and on the field testing enable GSSI to do leading research with the aim to provide athletes with advice and products that help their performance and achieve their goals.

GSSI LOCATIONS
In addition to Barrington's own physiology, biochemistry, body composition and exercise performance labs, GSSI also opened its first satellite laboratory at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida in 2011. The goal of this site is to service a wider spectrum of athletes and have regular access to athletes on the field of play. The IMG lab studies the effect of warm weather on a number of sports like American football, soccer, tennis and golf. In Canada, the GSSI works with athletes at the University of Guelph or on their field of play, with a focus on hockey. The satellite labs will be used for research purposes as well as sport science service centers for athletes. In addition, GSSI has a team in the United Kingdom and a number of consultants globally that provide sports science services to athletes and teams through mobile labs.

GSSI has worked globally with hundreds of amateur, elite and professional athletes including those athletes from the National Hockey League (NHL), Hockey Canada, Canadian Hockey League (CHL), National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Soccer (MLS), NASCAR, Women's Tennis Association (WTA), World Triathlon Corporation (Ironman), NCAA Football and international professional football (soccer), basketball, cricket, gymnastics, badminton, field hockey teams, among others to test the effects of sports nutrition and hydration on performance.

UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIPS
GSSI collaborates with universities and researchers around the world to undertake research in exercise science and sports nutrition. The Institute is internationally recognized for its research and education offerings, which serve nearly 100,000 subscribers in more than 145 countries. In addition, more than 100 Student Research Grants have been awarded to research fellows and graduate students throughout North America, including Canada, Latin America, Australia, Asia and Europe supporting research in a variety of areas.

EDUCATION, RESEARCH & GSSIWEB.ORG
GSSI's work on the field extends beyond the true field of play. GSSI scientists produce educational programs and materials for the continuing education of athletes, their influencers, and members of the sports science community. The Institute's web site is home to educational materials, research news, and various resources sports health practitioners can use in their work with athletes.
