SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND: John is an exercise scientist and certified Project Management Professional with interests in sports nutrition, hydration, and the effects of fluid and electrolyte balance on cardiovascular and thermoregulatory response to exercise in the heat. In his current role, John leads an operational team conducting clinical trials, manages the sports science information management platform, and works along with the Principal Investigators to assure clinical and operational compliance across global GSSI satellite sites. For the past 15 years, John conducted lab-based physiology and field-based applied research in the areas of hydration, rehydration, sweating response, electrolytes, and fluid balance. A native of Connecticut, he earned his BS and MS degrees in Human Performance/Exercise Science at Southern Connecticut State University. Past professional experience includes Research Fellow coordinating internal and external clinical research in the Human Performance Laboratory at Southern, then providing research support for the cardiovascular and fluid physiology group at the John B. Pierce Laboratory, affiliated with Yale University. John has been a member of the American College of Sports Medicine since 1989. He is also an author and co-author of several publications in scientific journals, a contributor to the text Sports Drinks: Basic Science and Practical Aspects, and peer-reviewer for several exercise and sports medicine focused journals. Extracurricular interests include running, mountain biking, backpacking, sea-kayaking, and interests in environmental medicine and digital photography.
